Membrana has a long and rich history in membrane manufacturing and development. Our company has evolved through many positive product transitions over our 40 years in business. We focus entirely on what we do best —- the research, development and production of high quality membranes and devices.
Membrana began as an industrial pioneer with large-scale production of membranes for separation in industrial and medical industries. Membrana's industrial separations group has continually increased its product portfolio in ultrafiltration membrane technology as well as microfiltration membranes and devices. Our membranes are used extensively in liquid filtration products within ultrafiltration systems and microfiltration equipment.
The following is a timeline that summarizes some of our key innovations:
The company began production of flat membranes for dialysis in 1965.
In 1981, the use of membranes for industrial filtration products used in microfiltration equipment and ultrafiltration systems began and the production of fully synthetic polyamide flat membranes was realized.
Accurel® flat membranes were introduced into the Membrana family for use in liquid filtration products.
In 1994, the MicroPES® flat membrane used for dead-end microfiltration in process water and other industrial filtration products was developed. One year later MicroPES® capillary membranes were successfully introduced for industrial filtration and plasma separation.
In 1998 UltraPES® and MicroPES® capillary membranes were introduced for use in drinking water membrane filtration, industrial water filtration, process water filtration and waste water filtration, just to name a few.
In 1999 Membrana GmbH was brought into the Polypore family of companies.
In 2005 two new membranes were added to the Membrane Filtration Products portfolio. Microlon® polyamid flat sheet membranes were introduced to address growing market needs. DuraPES® was also introduced for stringent membrane filtration for beverage applications.
Today intercompany synergies have allowed us to bring technologies together to complete the development of Liqui-Flux® ultrafiltration and microfiltration membrane products. High performance membranes and module manufacturing expertise have made the forward integration into filtration devices a reality.
