We are facing drinking water shortages due to our population increases. Many regions of the world do not have a fresh water source available to use for drinking water. The fact that there is not enough fresh water to support our growing population forces us to look to alternative water sources for our consumption needs.
Because sea water is plentiful, efforts continue to focus on making it drinkable. Desalination using RO membranes requires prefiltration. Using ultrafiltration membrane systems for water filtration protects the RO elements from premature fouling and extends the service life of the RO membrane. This lowers the cost of RO desalination systems and makes them more economical to install. Additionally the use of ultrafiltration equipment prior to RO dramatically reduces the chemical requirements for system operation.
Where surface or fresh water is available, Liqui-Flux ultrafiltration membrane modules can be installed to remove turbididty and suspended solids in order for that water to be used safely. Liqui-Flux liquid filtration products are an economic alternative to conventional pre-treatment processes such as flocculation, sedimentation and multi media filtration for the removal of suspended solids and other particulates because ultrafiltration equipment produces a reliable supply of quality drinking water in a small space.
Liqui-Flux membrane modules, with 61m2 (657 ft2) of ultrafiltration membrane area, offer one of the largest surface areas with capillary membranes in an ultrafilter today. Furthermore, Liqui-Flux liquid filtration products provide a sterilized water source in one step, which is not possible with the other processes mentioned alone.
UltraPES® modified hydrophilic polyethersulphone ultrafiltration membrane is an ideal candidate for ultrafiltration in the water treatment process. It has a multifunctional 3-layer structure. This provides outstanding mechanical strength and high flux allowing it to process high flow rates. UltraPES ultrafiltration membrane has a backflush strength layer allowing the membrane to withstand many abusive backflush cycles. It is proven that less energy is required to generate the same throughput in the Liqui-Flux filter when compared side by side to other ulltrafiltration systems. At the same time less energy is required in the backflushing process.
Liqui-Flux Ultrafiltration Membrane Modules offer excellent performance with lower operating costs when compared to other liquid filtration products available today.
